  Why Is Alcoholism Deeply Embeded In JW Culture?

  we get plenty of company men passing through our circuit, often filled with misinformation and lugging around a suitcase of guilt, they bring more guilt to the weak while praising the braggart pioneers and slapping the "righteous over much" elders.

  why are the wrong people getting praise in this distorted community?

  i know for a fact many of the elders i served with have issues with alcoholism, when "brother guilt" brought his emotional hurricane through our circuit, i had the chance to eat and help pay for his "seven shots of tequila", both him and his wife were not immune to over-indulgences.

  I live in a country in which alcohol is a big part of culture and I find the jws tend to be less inclined to over indulge than the general population. Depends on where you live I suppose. Jws seem to put less emphasis on booze than other people around here that's for sure.

  i'm sure topics like this have already come up but they tend to get hilarious with the absolute absurdity that goes on in the kh.

  i was once counseled for not shaving after two days.

  i was also counseled by a sister for eating lucky charms cereal.

  Whatever the fashion is, it's bad. If tight pants are in, then loose pants are good. If loose pants are in, then JWs have to wear tight pants. If waistlines are low, JWs should wear high waisted pants. If the fashion is for high waists, then wear low or medium. They just want everyone to look the same and boring.

  At a CA in a talk the CO said we shouldn't refer to the Australian cricket team as "our team" or "our side" when talking about the cricket. We were not Australians he told us, we were only JWs and had to refer to sporting teams or prime ministers as "Australian" as in "The Australian cricket team," or "Australian prime minister" instead of "our cricket team" or "our prime minister". Or else, we were showing nationalistic pride. What an idiot!

  Counselled by MS for using a big word in a TMS talk

  Counselled by elder for using words like "bloody"

  Counselled by sister for low cut top (it wasn't)

  Counselled by elder for doing an impression of Bono (it's a sin to pretend to be a man!)

  Counselled by snotty sister for drawing on my WT- it was like the second time in my life I'd been to the meeting.

  Counselled for being unchaperoned with my fiance (I was 30 , he was 40 and divorced)- we know you're not doing anything sexual, but think about what other people think! I said, "well that shows how dirty minded they are."

  Counselled by an elder and a piosneer middle aged single bitch for going on RVs alone with a married, elderly pioneer male friend

  Counselled by elders for retelling a story about a sister who left a nasty note in another sister's bible

  Abused by a brother I worked with for talking about 'worldly things' to the non-JW staff instead of witnessing to them

  Counselled by a friend/MS for saying my congregation was not as good as someone else's

  That's all I can think of right now. I can add more later.

  as a born-in, i was eager to join the ministry school.

  my cousins were also born-in but lived in different states.

  there was keen competition to see who could do mature things, such as baptism (my mom said when i was 35) and ministry school.

  I once condensed the best main points on public speaking from the book onto a handout for when I was teaching senior English. It was tips on posture, stance, eye contact and that. It was the book without all the crap. I put it onto one A4 page. That was the benefit I got from it, or rather my classes did.

  my wife is upstairs on the phone with her ultra nutty mom (the gb = jehovah kind of lady) begging us to get active again....or we will die at armageddon.
